Judges
Christian Gaffey – Chair
Christian Gaffey is Senior Procurement Manager at Wine Selectors. Wine Selectors is Australia’s largest independent direct marketer of wine, delivering countless cases of wine each year to over 200,000 customers. Christian has worked extensively for wineries in NSW and is now the winemaker at Jackson’s Hill in the Hunter Valley. Throughout his career he has been awarded numerous trophies and awards. Christian is also a highly respected Wine Show Judge and for the last four years has judged at the London International Wine Show.
Daniel Binet – Judge
Daniel Binet has been interested in wine since 1989 when after a spell of picking grapes in France, on his return to Australia, he embarked on a horticulture degree.
In 2006 and 2007 Daniel was one of the 10 finalists in the Australian Young Winemaker of the Year awards and twice nominated Hunter Valley Rising Star and since served as a judge at the Hunter Valley Wine Show, Forbes Small winemakers Show and the Gisborne international Chardonnay Challenge as well as the Kiama Regional Wine Show. He worked in the Hunter at Bimbadgen at the start of a viticulture course and then on to a four-year stint at Capercaillie.
In 2008 a business partnership was formed between Daniel and local vigneron Alex Stuart, both driven by a passion to produce distinctive premium Hunter wines. Ballabourneen Wine Co opened its doors on Broke Rd Pokolbin in December 2008.
Brendon Heath – Judge
Brendon Heath is a graduate of Charles Sturt University. Brendan has worked in the wine industry for over sixteen years gaining valuable extensive experience in table and fortified winemaking under Colin Campbell, of Campbell's wines. He recently worked closely with the late Chris Killeen before taking on the role of head winemaker at Stanton and Killeen in 2007.
Since 2008 Brendan has been judging at the prestigious International Wine Challenge in London, UK, and was appointed to panel judging fortified sherry & port predominately from Portugal and Spain with some wines dating back to 1927. Brendan cites his main winemaking interests in Vintage Port, Tokay and the intricacies and tannin structure of Durif, the iconic wine Stanton and Killeen have made famous.
Sam Miranda – Judge
Sam Miranda is a third generation vigneron. His grandfather migrated from Naples and established a winery in the Barossa Valley. Sam has now branched out on his own and purchased the King Valley winery in Victoria’s North East. He continues the strong family tradition of wine making with pride and passion.
Sam produces a selection of varieties under his signature SAM MIRANDA label. Varieties like Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Prosecco, Pinot Gris, Pinot Menuir, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay and some unusual varieties such as Petit Manseng, Tempranillo, & Saperavi. .
Shayne Bricker - Associate
Shayne Bricker is the owner and chief wine maker of Two Figs Winery Bolong Road, 12 km from Berry. Shayne established the vineyard in 2003 and already has won awards notably the best wine made in a Shoalhaven Coast Winery, the Two Figs Chardonnay
The Winery is now producing wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chambourcin and Verdelho. The climate is temperate with maritime influences and produces soft approachable wines. Shayne now offers these premium award winning wines for tasting and cellar door sales amidst the equipment and barrels of his working winery.
Eddie Rossi – Associate
Eddie Rossi oversees the running of Southern Highland Wines Cellar Door and is the Chief Winemaker. He began his career as Assistant Winemaker at McWilliams while still studying at Charles Sturt University. He moved to Rossetto wines, as Winemaker to the 12,000 ton facility and was the Chief Winemaker there for 5 years before moving to the Southern Highlands. Eddie joined forces with the Southern Highlands Wines team in 2000, to address the domestic and export markets for bulk and finished wine products independently. He manages the contract wine processing division of Southern Highland Wines and produces all of the wine styles, with support from his experienced team.
Rick Staniford - Associate
Rick Staniford has been studying a BAS(Wine science)/ BAS(Viticulture) through Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga since 2006 part time. His interest began with part time viticulture work locally at the age of 14 and has steadily increased ever since. He has worked at Mount Majura Vineyard in the ACT and at Robert Oatley Wines in Mudgee. He has experience in WA at Howard Park Wines, a producer of both the Howard Park and Madfish labels.
Rick has participated in the South Coast Wine Show as an associate judge in 2008 and 2009.
Public Tasting
Public Tasting – Friday 23 September 2011
Kiama Regional Wine Show brings the wineries to you! Please join us in a tasting event featuring over 20 wineries from the Shoalhaven, Southern Highlands and surrounding regions. More than 140 wines entered in the official judging will be available for tasting on the night. An evening you do not want to miss!

Transport
Kiama Scenic Tours offers a bus shuttle service to and from the Public Tasting on 23 rd September. There will be pickups at Wollongong Station at 4.45 pm and Oak Flats Station at 5.15 pm with return from Kiama leaving at 8.00 pm for $15 per person.
For Kiama & Gerringong residents a door to door service is available from 5.00pm @ $10.00 per person.
