Class 1: Dry White – Fragrant or Floral Variety JUDGES COMMENTS: A delicate style of Riesling to be encouraged. Structure important. Best wines have delicacy and structure. Several wines disadvantaged by wine making faults. Some residual sugar may be appropriate but take care of its impact on structure.

Class 2: Dry White – Chardonnay JUDGES COMMENTS: A very strong class. Top wines very well made and presented. Some wines suffered with wine making faults.
* * * * *
Class 3: Dry White – Semillon JUDGES COMMENTS: An exciting class showing that the variety works extremely well in certain parts of the region. Many wines very well made with elegance and structure and clearly of high-class national standard.
* * * * *
Class 4: Dry White – Verdelho JUDGES COMMENTS: Several wines well made from ripe fruit. Some others did not produce the substance or balance required for the variety. A surprising number of pink wines; a reflection of poor fruit handling.
* * * * *
Class 5: Dry White – Sauvignon Blanc JUDGES COMMENTS: A generally disappointing class lacking varietal definition. Some honest attempts with what appears to be a difficult variety where ever it is grown in most parts of NSW.
* * * * *
Class 6: Dry White – Blend or Other Variety JUDGES COMMENTS: Several interesting wines. Pinot Gris has potential but the wines here suffered from poor fruit handling. Several wines need to be made from riper grapes.
* * * * *
Class 7: Light Bodied Red (Early Drinking Style including Rosé) JUDGES COMMENTS: The Rosé wines generally lacked the supple rosé texture to score well.
* * * * *
Class 8: Dry Red – Pinot Noir JUDGES COMMENTS: Wines that received awards have some complexity. Overall, the wines were fairly simple. However, Pinot is a variety that needs a great deal of work in the vineyard and in the winery.

Class 9: Dry Red - Shiraz JUDGES COMMENTS: Best wine shows good fruit concentration and structure. A style to pursue.
Class 10: Dry Red – Cabernet Sauvignon JUDGES COMMENTS: A range of well made wines with one outstanding.
Class 11: Dry Red – Chambourcin JUDGES COMMENTS: Award winning wines were well made in a variety of styles.

Class 12: Dry Red – Blend or Other Variety JUDGES COMMENTS: A diverse array of varieties, styles and qualities. Best wines show ripe balanced fruit and sympathetic use of good oak. Class highlights the need for winemakers to pay attention to detail.
* * * * *
Class 13: Sweet White Wine (Any Vintage) JUDGES COMMENTS: Sweet wines should show genuine concentrated fruit and fruit must be clean to produce this properly.
* * * * *
Class 14: Sparkling White or Red Wine (Any Vintage) JUDGES COMMENTS: One good wine was an impressive attempt.
* * * * *
Class 15: Fortified Wines (Any Vintage) JUDGES COMMENTS: A small class showing some potential for the future.
