Southern Highlands Region
Kiama | Shoalhaven Coast Region | Southern Highlands Region
Vines are slowly changing the face of the Southern Highlands. The early morning mists the Highlands are renowned for now shroud the vineyards across the valleys. Take a drive down a winding country lane and you’re likely to come across one of the eleven cellar doors that will welcome you to sample the cool climate wines of the Southern Highlands.
With more than 60 vineyards planted in the area, the Southern Highlands boasts an array of varietals and an ever increasing number of cellar doors to choose from, as well as award winning wines. The oldest vines were planted over twenty years ago and combined with plantings over recent years there are now over 18 varieties including reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Shiraz. Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris form a considerable portion of the white varieties.
Already home to 19 wine labels, the Southern Highlands was declared an Australian wine region in March 2002. You’ll find that each of the cellar doors offers a different experience for the visitor, from cosy and rustic to modern and chic. Why not come in and taste?
