Shoalhaven Coast Wine Industry Association Inc. (SCWIA Inc.), formerly known as the Shoalhaven Coast Grape Growers and Winemakers Association Inc., was renamed in 2003 to reflect the changing nature of the association. From a loosely bound group of grape growers, wine makers and social members the SCWIA Inc. has found a new direction, committed philosophically and financially to the advancement of the region by co-operative marketing and education.

Following sponsorship by SCWIA Inc. the Shoalhaven Coast Wine Region was granted GI (Geographic Indication) recognition in August 2002, becoming Australia’s 95th wine region. In the same year the region was the subject of a phylloxera survey, by the Department of Agriculture, which found the region to be free of the disease and has moved towards being formally declared phylloxera-free by 2004.

The region now boasts 19 wine grape growers, 11 cellar doors and 6 operating wineries with a total production of 500 tonnes or approximately 400,000 bottles. Growth continues apace with 4 new vineyards currently under development.
